Rugby Referee Level 1 Officiating Course in San Jose, CA
Date: Sunday, January 15, 2016
Time: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The course starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Plan on being 20 minutes early to ensure all registration administrative work is done. Please plan accordingly. Lunch will be provided.

Pre-course Registration Requirements. Students must complete the following World Rugby online modules available at the World Rugby Passport website. First, register with WR on their Passport website that you will access with the noted links. After completing each module, download the certificate you will receive from WR and email it to email@example.com where it will be uploaded into your USA Rugby member profile. The three WR modules to be completed in order to register for this course are:

? World Rugby’s online Rugby Ready program found at http://www.irbrugbyready.com/?language=EN.
? The WR Concussion Management for the General Public module found at http://www.playerwelfare.worldrugby.org/concussion.
Course Registration: Registration is accomplished on-line with USA Rugby at http://www.usarugby.org/events-calendar/#filter=.referee-clinic, which requires CIPP registration as a referee, prior completion of the three WR modules referenced above, and credit card payment of the course fee which is $60. When registering for the class and you already are CIPP registered with USA Rugby as a player, coach, or administrator, ensure you add registration as a referee. Registration Deadline: Online registration with USA Rugby will close and no further registrations accepted after Friday, January 6, 2017. Registration with the lead Trainer, Mike Malone, may still be available until Thursday, January 12, 2017, dependent on the number of students already having registered and the late registrant having completed all pre-course registration requirements. No walk-ins will be allowed on the day of the course.

Attire: Attendees will need to wear comfortable clothing suitable for both classroom and on-the- field practical sessions.
Course Certification: Course certification may only be accomplished with current USA Rugby membership, including registration as a referee, attending and successfully participating in all course modules, and passing the online World Rugby law exam and Rugby Ready programs, preferably prior to the course but no later than 30 days following the date of the course.
Purpose: The purpose of this introductory course is to enable officials to acquire basic skills to officiate safe, enjoyable rugby competition. Course certification is required for anyone who wishes to referee any match that could potentially lead to a USA Rugby national championship.
The course focuses on: Game knowledge, role of the referee, principles of rugby, principles of refereeing, positioning, referee preparation, planning, risk management, starting & restarting the game, communication, advantage, open play, contact, touch, lineout, scrum, and foul play management.
