Time: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The course starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Plan on being 20 minutes early to ensure all registration administrative work is done. Please plan accordingly. Lunch will be provided.

Location: Redwood High School, 395 Doherty Drive, Larkspur, CA (the class will be conducted in the football classroom behind the Gym, Room CEA).

Cost: $60, paid by credit card with online registration

Course Registration: Registration can be accomplished
• On-line with USA Rugby at http://www.usarugby.org/referee-courses/calendar, which will require CIPP registration as a referee and credit card payment of course fee. When registering for the class and you already are CIPP registered with USA Rugby as a player, coach, or administrator, ensure you add registration as a referee; or,

Registration Deadline: Online registration with USA Rugby will close and no further registrations accepted after Monday, November 9, 2015. Registration with the lead Trainer, Mike Malone, may be available until Thursday, November 12, 2015, dependent on the number of students already registered and the availability of course materials previously ordered for this course. No walk-ins will be allowed on the day of the course.

Pre-course Work Requirements:
• Students must complete an online law exam prior to the course, found at www.irblaws.com. Once successfully completed, download the certificate of completion provided by World Rugby and either send the certificate to Mike Malone as an attachment to an email or print out the exam certificate and bring it to the course as evidence of completing the online law exam.
• Students also must complete World Rugby’s online Rugby Ready program found at http://www.irbrugbyready.com/?language=EN.
• Please note that these requirements may be completed after the course, but a 30-day completion deadline will be enforced, after which no certification will be issued without successful completion of these requirements.

Items needed to attend the course:
• Course registration confirmation
• IRB Rugby Ready certificate
• IRB Laws Exam certificate
• Pen or pencil

Attire: Attendees will need to wear comfortable clothing suitable for both classroom and on-the-field practical sessions.

Course Certification: Course certification may only be accomplished with current USA Rugby membership, including registration as a referee, attending and successfully participating in all course modules, and passing the online World Rugby law exam and Rugby Ready programs, preferably prior to the course but no later than 30 days following the date of the course.

Purpose: The purpose of this introductory course is to enable officials to acquire basic skills to officiate safe, enjoyable rugby competition. Course certification is required for anyone who wishes to referee any match that could potentially lead to a USA Rugby national championship.

The course focuses on: Game knowledge, role of the referee, principles of rugby, principles of refereeing, positioning, referee preparation, planning, risk management, starting & restarting the game, communication, advantage, open play, contact, touch, lineout, scrum, and foul play management.
