Description: The purpose of this introductory course is to enable new rugby referees to acquire basic skills to officiate safe, enjoyable rugby competition. Course certification is required for anyone who wishes to referee any match that could potentially lead to a USA Rugby national championship. The course focuses on the principles of rugby, game knowledge, the role of the referee, and referee preparation (including planning and risk management).

Cost: $60 course fee (must be paid online during registration: see below).

Course Registration: Registration must be completed on-line by Wednesday, November 16, 2016, on the USA Rugby website: http://www.usarugby.org/events-calendar/#filter=.referee-clinic. Walk-in (late) attendees are not allowed.

Note 1: Course registration requires USA Rugby membership (CIPP) and registration as a referee. If an attendee is already a member of USA Rugby (i.e., CIPP’d as a player, coach, or administrator), he/she should supplement their membership by adding registration as a referee (at no additional cost).

Note 2: After registering for the course, attendees should forward the confirmation email to the Lead Educator (listed above) to ensure timely receipt of pre-course communications (including reading material).

Pre-Course Work: By Thursday, November 17, 2016, attendees must complete the following certifications and submit them by email to the USA Rugby Training Education Coordinator, Robby Crips (rcrips@usarugby.org):

Other Logistics:
Attire: Attendees should wear comfortable clothing and casual athletic shoes (sneakers) suitable for both classroom work and light on-field (outdoor) practical drills. Sunblock and hats are recommended.
Equipment: Attendees should bring a pen or pencil. Laptop computers or tablets are welcome (but not required) for electronic document reference.
Meals: Lunch and drinking water will be provided. Note: If an attendee has a diet restriction, he/she should inform the Lead Educator by Sept 8. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own food and drink.

1. Prior to attending the course:
